More Than $10,000 Up For Grabs in Drone Video Contest

Major cash and prizes are at stake for drone pilots around the world in the second annual AirVūz Drone Video Awards.

Following a successful inaugural event, AirVuz.com is hosting its award show for the second straight year. The competition will award prizes for the top drone videos and photos uploaded to AirVūz during 2018.

This year’s list of sponsors includes drone-related companies such as Horizon Hobby, Polar Pro, GetFPV, Rotor Riot and Tiny Whoop. Media partners include The Drone Girl, DroneLife, Women and Drones, and Women Who Drone.

“We’re excited to build off of the success of the first Drone Video Awards and can’t wait to see the content this year’s creators produce,” said Megan Gaffney, Vice President of Marketing at AirVūz. “Much like the drone videos that creators have uploaded thus far, this year’s contest will be bigger and better than last year. We can’t wait to showcase the most spectacular drone footage in the world and give the content creators the recognition they deserve.”

The second annual AirVūz Drone Video Awards will have 16 total categories, an increase from 11 categories in the inaugural competition. A total of five FPV (first-person view) categories are included in this year’s contest: Freestyle – Cinematic, Freestyle – Technical, Freestyle – Flow, Tiny Whoop Acro Mode and Tiny Whoop Angle Mode. Camera drone categories include: Nature & Landscape, Countries & Regions, Cities & Urban, People & Lifestyle, Dronie, Extreme Sports, Originality, Still Photography, Game of Drones (filming locations from “Game of Thrones”), Drones for Good and Reels.

Grand prizes of $3,000 USD will be awarded to both the Video of the Year and FPV Video of the Year, and the People’s Choice winner will receive $1,000 USD. All category winners will take home $500 USD.

A panel of judges — including industry leaders such as Sally French from The Drone Girl, Tiny Whoop founder Jesse Perkins, Drew Camden of Rotor Riot and more — will help the AirVūz curation team select the finalists in each category from the estimated 30,000+ aerial videos and more than 4,000 photos. The nominees will then be voted on by fellow AirVuz.com content creators.

Any video uploaded to AirVuz.com from Jan. 1, 2018 to Dec. 31, 2018 is eligible to win. Only one video or photo per content creator in each category will be eligible.

Nominees for each of the 16 categories will be revealed on Jan. 14, 2019, and voting will close on Jan. 28. Winners from the second annual AirVūz Drone Video Awards will be announced on Feb. 18, 2019 during a live broadcast.

Russian production company Timelab.pro took home the Drone Video of the Year award in the inaugural contest, while drone racing pilot Paul Nurkkala’s “NURK’s Flight of the Year” won the top prize as the best FPV video. All of last year’s award nominees and winners can be found at AirVuz.com.
