Drone Video Collections Tour “Game of Thrones” Filming Locations

For fans of the hit television series “Game of Thrones” who can’t wait for the final season to begin, allow drone videos to whet your appetite for the show.

The smash hit HBO show, which has been called “the best show in the last 20 years” and has dominated the past several television awards seasons, has served to highlight the beauty of the locations in Europe and North Africa where most of the show has been filmed. While the location names used in the show are fictional, they are highly recognizable “real-life” places and in effect have become co-stars of the show, tracked by ardent fans as closely as the show’s cast. Such has been the level of “Game of Thrones” popularity that many of these locations have seen huge influxes of tourists seeking to visit the prominent settings like King’s Landing (the fictional capital of the land of Westeros, which is actually Dubrovnik, Croatia) and the land “beyond the wall” (a borderland territory which is actually one of the great glaciers of Iceland).

Since these locations are chosen in large part for their spectacular beauty, it’s perhaps not surprising that drone pilots around the world have sought out many of these same locations for aerial filming. As the world’s largest platform for sharing drone videos, AirVūz has had thousands of uploads from places where much of the show has been filmed, such as Spain’s Andalusia and Catalonia regions, Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast, Iceland, Malta and Northern Ireland.

With such a plethora of spectacular footage from show locations, AirVūz has assembled a group of drone video collections featuring footage from “Game of Thrones” filming locations.

In total, there are 10 drone video collections of “Game of Thrones” filming locations on AirVuz.com, including a collection specific to each season as well as collections related to each of the main fictional countries of Essos and Westeros. In total, it’s the most comprehensive visual representation of the show’s filming locations as seen from an aerial perspective. In these collections, “Game of Thrones” fans will find magnificent aerial videos of places like Harenhal (actually Dunluce Castle in Northern Ireland), the home of the Dathraki Horsemen (the province of Almería in southern Spain), the rock arch where Daenerys married Khal Drogo (the now-collapsed Azure Window on Malta’s Gozo island), and the towns of Yunkai and Astapor (both of which are towns in Morocco).

Because of the popularity of the show and the number of pilots who have droned its locations, AirVūz has included an accompanying category in its second annual Drone Video Awards, which runs through Dec. 31, 2018. The “Game of Drones” category will feature the best drone footage of the filming locations from “Game of Thrones.”
