A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 2 Trailer, Cast, News and More

Loading

We have the official announcement! Netflix has greenlit A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 2. Though we always knew it was likely that the adaptation of the bestselling children’s book series would get at least 10 more episodes, it’s nice to get the confirmation — and tons of new media to go along with it.

A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 2 Trailer

The latest A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 2 trailer dives a bit deeper into some of the (guaranteed to be humiliating,) adventures in store for our oppressed orphan siblings this time around.

While the deadly avaricious advances of Count Olaf are back, once again attempting to part the children from their sizable inheritance (and, for what it’s worth, their lives), the embattled Baudelaires are starting to come to the conclusion that there’s a secret reason behind the titular series of unfortunate events they constantly – we daresay comically – endure.

…Enter a potential source of answers with Nathan Fillion in his role as Jacques Snicket, the brother of author Daniel Handler’s character nom de plume, Lemony Snicket (Patrick Warburton). Jacques not only knew the Baudelaires’ late parents, but was also a former schoolmate to Count Olaf.

Count Olaf promises Season 2 of A Series of Unfortunate Events will be even worse in this previous trailer…

And here’s another Olaf-led trailer…

The initial A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 2 confirmation included a video announcement, as well as a website dedicated entirely to the big news. The website includes a hilarious letter that not only defines the word “binge” for us, but mentions that “set builders, costume designers and trauma specialists are snapping into action” for the new episodes.

A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 2 Release Date

A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 2 will unleash more wanton woe on the Baudelaires on Netflix on March 30.

Here’s the new poster, appropriately depicting the ominous visage of Count Olaf planning some sadistic plot on the long-suffering Baudelaires below.

Netflix started the promotional blitz with the first batch of photos for A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 2. Amongst the returning familiar faces, we get our first look at Lucy Punch as Esmé Squalor, the city’s “sixth most important” financial advisor, who steps into the series as a new antagonistic presence and apparent frenemy to Neil Patrick Harris’s Count Olaf.

Indeed, based on the photos, Olaf and Esmé will be stirring up trouble for the embattled Baudelaire orphans on multiple fronts, including a disguise-donning invasion of the Heimlic Hospital, in Episodes 7 and 8, which adapts the Snicket series novel, The Hostile Hospital.

A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 2 Cast

Here are the notable newcomers who will join the returning Season 1 cast.

Lucy Punch (Into the Woods, Hot Fuzz) will play Esmé Squalor.

Nathan Fillion (Castle, Firefly) will play Jacques Snicket.

Sara Rue (Bones, The Ring) will play the role of a Librarian.

Roger Bart (Graves, Episodes) will play Vice-Principal Nero.

Kitana Turnbull (The Bachelors, Supergirl) will play Carmelita Spats.

A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 2 Details

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Daniel Handler (aka Lemony Snicket himself), confirmed that he and the other A Series of Unfortunate Events writers have already begun work on A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 2, ahead of the A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 1 release.

Handler said of a second season:

I am deep in season 2. I’ve been working in my own dining room with a team of writers I’m really loving on the next season, and we hope to get the go-ahead to do season 3, which… given how quickly young actors age and change, we’re trying to film everything as quickly as possible.

For real. Those kids aren’t going to stay pint-sized forever.

More news as we hear it. In the mean time, be sure to check out our spoiler-free review of A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 1.

Handler also spoke about which books the 10-episode season 2 will focus on, teasing:

The second season is laid out to be 10 episodes for the next five books, so it ends on The Carnivorous Carnival, and the third season would be the rest of it …

It’s nice to go into something that hasn’t been adapted before. There’s a little feeling of, you have to be this tall to ride this ride.
