Next Godzilla Anime Trailer Teases Mechagodzilla
Toho and Polygon Pictures’ anime collaboration on the king of the monsters, Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters was a wild sci-fi take on the legend (my full review is here). The anime looks positively gorgeous, and it’s currently available on Netflix. It turns out that Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters was only the beginning, and it’s the kickoff of an entire Godzilla anime trilogy.
The next one is called Godzilla: Kessen Kidō Zōshoku Toshi, which apparently translates as Godzilla: The City Mechanized for the Final Battle. Presumably that will get Americanized a little as it gets prepped for a release over here. It looks like Planet of the Monsters directors Kobun Shizuno and Hiroyuki Seshita are back for this one (thanks to Anime News Network for bringing that to our attention).
But the really exciting news about the sequel is that it appears we’re going to meet Mechagodzilla! Ol’ Mechagodzilla was something of an easter egg in the first film, so it looks like we’ll get a futuristic version of him here.

And here’s the poster…
There’s another, possibly even cooler poster as well…
Next Godzilla Anime Release Date
Kessen Kidō Zōshoku Toshi is going to be released in Japanese theaters on May 18, 2018, and presumably, like Planet of the Monsters, it will get a Netflix release after that. Hopefully it will be here by June, but we’ll update this as soon as we know.
