Kurt Russell Set to Play Santa Claus for Netflix

Kurt Russell will be the latest in a long line of actors to take on the role of Santa Claus, in this case for a brand new Netflix family film.

The yet-to-be-titled Yuletide film (the script was originally called 12/24) also stars Judah Lewis (The Babysitter) and Darby Camp (Big Little Lies) as siblings who hatch a plan to try and catch Santa on camera, and thus prove he’s real. But when the plan goes awry and causes Santa’s sleigh to crash, the pair must help St. Nick get Christmas back on track before it’s too late.

The film will mix live action and CG will be directed by Clay Kaytis, co-director of The Angry Birds Movie. Chris Columbus is producing and the idea is to have it ready for release in time for next Christmas. Russell was last seen in two of this year’s biggest hits, The Fate of the Furious and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, to which he brought his customary swagger.
