Mindhunter Season 2 Not Confirmed Yet, but Five Seasons Planned
Netflix’s dark crime series Mindhunter has booked a second outing on the streaming giant before Season 1 even settled on a specific premiere date. Based on the 1995 book Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit by John Douglas and Mark Olshaker, Netflix’s Mindhunter adapts real FBI serial killer cases documented in the book, set against an atmosphere of insatiable lust and darkness.
With suspense-minded visionary David Fincher and Charlize Theron as executive producers, Mindhunter isn’t a run of the mill crime procedural. This is especially the case since Fincher steps behind the camera for Mindhunter as a director for three episodes in Season 1, written by John Douglas and Joe Penhall.
Despite a premature report by Spoiler TV it appears that Netflix has yet to announce a Mindhunter Season 2 renewal. However, Holt McCallany told ScreenRant that David Fincher has long term plans, saying “he wants to do five years of this show. Five seasons of these characters and so I’m hopeful, you know I don’t take anything for granted.”
Mindhunter Season 2 Story
Mindhunter arrives for its inaugural season as a 10-episode Netflix series based on the 1995 true crime memoir Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit by John Douglas and Mark Olshaker. The book chronicles some of the unfathomably gruesome serial killer cases from the 25-year bureau career of Douglas, who was the inspiration for Scott Glenn’s Jack Crawford in The Silence of the Lambs.
Indeed, the series seems to be embodied by a quote from its own teaser trailer, “You want truffles, you gotta get in the dirt with the pigs.” Thus, the truffle-hunting in Mindhunter Season 2 will likely see its FBI team dig further in that proverbial dirt.
Mindhunter Season 2 Cast
There is no confirmed information on the lineup for Mindhunter Season 2. However, barring any shocking shedding of main cast players, we can, for now, presume that the Season 1 primary players are returning, so here they are.
Jonathan Groff plays FBI Behavior Science Unit agent Holden Ford, the show’s main character and the fictionalized manifestation of real-life FBI agent John Douglas. Groff is a television alumnus from Glee and Looking, who is also remembered as the voice of ice harvester Kristoff in Disney’s Frozen.
Holt McCallany plays FBI Behavior Science Unit agent Bill Tench, based on real-life agent Robert K. Ressler. McCallany has appeared in key Fincher films like Fight Club and Alien 3 and another veteran actor in Cotter Smith, currently seen on FX’s The Americans and remembered from myriad small screen roles and as President McKenna in the pioneering 2003 comic book movie effort X2: X-Men United.
Anna Torv plays a psychologist named Wendy, based on real-life figure Dr. Ann Wolbert Burgess. Torv is known for starring on Fox’s celebrated sci-fi crime series Fringe and a mystery thriller series in her native Australia called Secret City.
Additionally:
Cotter Smith plays unit chief of the FBI National Training Academy, named Shepard. Smith is currently seen on FX’s The Americans and remembered from myriad small screen roles and as President McKenna in the pioneering 2003 comic book movie effort X2: X-Men United.
Hannah Gross (Unless, Take What You Can Carry) plays Debbie.
Mindhunter Season 2 Release Date
Netflix is probably a long way from divulging the Mindhunter Season 2 release date, since they haven’t even officially confirmed that it’s happening.
