Roma

In 1970s Mexico, a household servant named Cleo becomes pregnant by an affair with her friend’s boyfriend. An intimately detailed and dream-like story unfolds in black and white. Her child’s father leaves. She is left to fend for herself and the baby while also trying to support her employer’s family, who have strained relationships with one another as it is. The story is a potrait of Cleo’s loud, chaotic, crowded life as the days move closer to her child’s birthday.
