Hot Races in a Cool Location: McDonald’s Giving Away 4 Wild Cards for DCL DRONE PRIX LAAX
Liechtenstein, 8 February 2019 – From 28 to 30 March, the world’s leading drone racing series Drone Champions League (DCL) will kick off its 2019 season in the legendary snow park of the Swiss skiing resort Laax. Reaching speeds of up to 160 km/h with their drones, the professional DCL pilots will compete in breathtaking races on the Crap Sogn Gion mountain where even the smallest mistake can make the difference between winning and losing. Ambitious gamers should also put 13 February in their diary: Using a code provided in the McDonald’s app, they will get the one-off chance to qualify for the McDonald’s Wild Card Team via the drone flight simulator DCL – The Game (free of charge early demo) and, ultimately, to compete against the world’s best drone pilots in Laax.
Each year, the world’s best drone pilots compete in the Drone Champions League (DCL) in eight international teams, with six races taking place on tracks around the globe. Since the League’s inception in 2016, events have been organised in Germany, France, Belgium, Romania, Liechtenstein, Spain, China and Switzerland. In the upcoming 2019 season, the races will not only be broadcast live in 100 countries but can also be viewed online. Pilots receive six-figure sum cash prizes.
Open qualification with 8 invitations and 4 wild card winners
“To give ambitious drone pilots an opportunity to make their dream come true, we are launching a special initiative together with our partner McDonald’s: We offer passionate gamers and hobby pilots the one-off chance to qualify for the DCL race in Laax via our drone flight simulator and, ultimately, to become a part of the McDonald’s Wild Card Team,” says Herbert Weirather, DCL founder and CEO.
To secure one of the coveted places in the McDonald’s team, players need to enter a code in the drone flight simulator DCL – The Game. This code will be available from 13 February via the McDonald’s app. Participants then have until 10 March, 11.59 pm, to master the virtual Laax track of DCL – The Game as one of the top 8 players. On 29 March, these players will in a next step compete in Laax in a live qualification with real racing drones. The McDonald’s Wild Card Team will be made up of the four winners of these heats.
Spectacular drone races at home and in McDonald’s branches
On 8 January 2019, a free early demo of DCL – The Game was exclusively released on the internet sales platform Steam. The drone racing simulator offers high-speed action, and different levels of difficulty allow beginners and professionals alike to test their skills on more than ten original race tracks. As part of the DCL tour, McDonald’s customers will also get the opportunity to practice for their McDonald’s Wild Card Team qualification in selected branches in Switzerland between 13 February and 10 March (listed below).
