Bright 2 Gets Writer
Bright, starring Will Smith and Joel Edgerton, was one of Netflix’s most successful original movie launches. It reunites Smith with his Suicide Squad director, David Ayer, and the film reportedly cost approximately $90 million to make (a price it stumped up following a bidding war with Hollywood studios). The film also featured stars like Edgar Ramirez and Noomi Rapace.
The streaming giant touted that Bright landed itself 11 million viewers its opening weekend. All things being equal (which they most certainly aren’t), that would have given Bright an opening weekend north of $100 million, although it’s not clear if 11 million people actually would have left the house to check it out, especially given the film’s poor word-of-mouth.
Regardless, Bright 2 is in the works. David Ayer will direct Bright 2. Max Landis, who wrote the first film and created its concepts, won’t be back. Instead, Evan Spiliotopoulos (the Beauty & The Beast live action movie) will write the script, according to THR.
There’s no word on a release date yet.
