Bobby Kennedy For President Trailer Puts the Focus on Bobby

Netflix has released a trailer for its four-hour docuseries focusing on the life and death of Bobby Kennedy, specifically following his career from 1961 to 1968. It will also focus on his 83-day presidential campaign that began on March 16th, 1968 and ended with his assassination at L.A.’s Ambassador Hotel three months later.

Bobby Kennedy For President comes from director Dawn Porter (Gideon’s Army), who was originally approached to produce and direct a documentary about assassin Sirhan Sirhan’s ongoing legal case. Upon doing research for the film, Porter became more interested in Kennedy’s political career and decided, instead, to create a documentary series aout his identity as a social progressive.

“There is so much to his career and life that isn’t talked about,” Porter told Variety. “Also there’s really not a soup-to-nuts Bobby Kennedy piece. There is a lot on his death, but I didn’t want to just focus on his death because so often when we talk about Bobby Kennedy we focus on the assassination or we focus on his relationship with JFK. This series is about a story that you think you know, but you don’t really know.”

Judging from the trailer, Bobby Kennedy For President seems to focus not only on Kennedy’s career, but on the state of the country at the time. There will no doubt be parallels between the tensions of the 1960s and our own time. Check out the trailer…

Here’s the synopsis:

Bobby Kennedy For President will be released on Netflix on April 27th.
