A Series of Unfortunate Events Will End After Three Seasons

All unfortunate things must come to an end, and this includes Netflix’s adaptation of A Series of Unfortuate Events. Neil Patrick Harris told TV Guide that the drama is slated to end after its third season, following a plan that has been in place since the beginning.

“We’re three seasons all in,” Harris told the outlet. “We’ve intentionally been very truthful and factual and loyal to the books. We’ve added a few characters that aren’t in the books, we’ve added some songs that you probably couldn’t put into the books, but for the most part we’re sticking to the structure of what already worked.”

As the book series has 13 installments and Season 1 of the Netflix show covered the first four, the three-season structure makes a lot of sense. And, franky, it’s kind of nice to see a TV show come up with a narrative plan and stick with it, without adding on story to the end that is superfluous to what the show is trying to accomplish.

Although, it’s easy to say that from this side of things. We still have two seasons of the Lemony Snicket adaptation to still look forward to.

A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 2 hits Netflix on Friday, March 30.
