Ricky Gervais Extends Netflix Partnership With Second Stand-up Special
The latest controversy surrounding the content of Dave Chappelle’s recent stand-up specials hasn’t caused Netflix to shy away from provocative voices, as the streaming giant has announced that they’re continuing to work with comedian Ricky Gervais.
After making a deal to distribute his next standup special, Humanity, due in the first quarter of 2018, and earning the U.S. streaming rights to his U.K. Office spin-off film David Brent: Life on the Road, Netflix has announced they will be producing another standup special for Gervais. The special hasn’t been filmed or even conceived, according to Gervais’ Twitter account, but whenever he writes some good material, it’ll have a home at Netflix. The two parties have developed a fruitful working relationship, after Gervais’ series for the service, Derek.
At the moment, nothing is known about the financial aspect of the deal or even a vague timeline, but we’ll keep an eye on the Gervais/Netflix partnership and update accordingly when new details emerge.
