Dear White People Season 2 Greenlit By Netflix

Dear White People Season 2 is officially happening! According to TV Line, Netflix has ordered a second season of the college comedy that looks at race issues at a fictional Ivy League college. The TV series is based on the film of the same name, with the first season expanding the perspective of the movie by focusing on a different character for most of the first season’s 10 episodes.

Justin Simien created both the film and the TV show, writing and directing three of the episodes in Season 1 (Episodes 1, 2, and 10). The first season of Dear White People was released in April of 2017. It’s unclear, at this point, when we might get Season 2, but April 2018 isn’t out of the question.

It’s unclear which cast members will be returning for Dear White People Season 2, but the first season’s cast included: Logan Browning, DeRon Horton, Brandon P. Bell, John Patrick Amedori, Antoinette Robertson, Ashley Blaine Featherson, and Marque Richardson. Bell, Richardson and Featherson all played their characters in the film version, as well.

Netflix has officially started cancelling its original TV series (R.I.P., Sense8 and The Get Down), so it’s a relief to hear that Dear White People will be getting another season. It’s one of the few TV or streaming shows that so actively engages with race issues from a black perspective. We’re excited to see what happens at Winchester University next.
