The Guilty: Netflix Acquires Jake Gyllenhaal & Antoine Fuqua Thriller Film

Netflix has reportedly acquired worldwide rights to the upcoming thriller film The Guilty in a $30 million deal, according to Deadline. The movie reunites Southpaw’s Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler) and Antoine Fuqua (Training Day), with Gyllenhaal set to star and Fuqua directing. The movie is based on the Danish drama Den Skyldige directed by Gustav Moller.

The Guilty takes place over the course of a single morning in a 911 dispatch call center. Call operator Joe Bayler (Gyllenhaal) tries to save a caller in grave danger — but he soon discovers that nothing is at it seems, and facing the truth is the only way out.

The screenplay is written by Nic Pizzolatto (True Detective). Gyllenhaal will produce along with his Nine Stories partner Riva Marker as well as Fuqua through his Fuqua Films. Producers also include Scott Greenberg, Michel Litvak, and Gary Michael Walters for Bold Films. Annie Marter, Gustav Moller, and Lina Flint will executive produce.
