Lionsgate’s Cobweb nabs Lizzy Caplan, Antony Starr & Cleopatra Coleman

Just ahead of the film’s production start, Lionsgate’s horror-pic Cobweb has begun building its cast with a roster of impressive talent with Lizzy Caplan (Castle Rock), Antony Starr (The Boys) and Cleopatra Coleman (In the Shadow of the Moon), according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Written by Chris Thomas Devlin (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and directed by Samuel Bodin (Marianne), the film centers on a small town where a young boy begins to hear a mysterious tapping from inside the walls of his home and develops a suspicion that his parents are hiding a terrible secret.

Caplan and Starr have signed on to star as the parents of the boy in the film while Woody Norman, fresh off of BBC dramas The War of the Worlds and Poldark, is set to play Peter, the timid protagonist at the center of the story. Coleman is set to star as Miss Devine, Peter’s substitute teacher filling in at the local elementary school.

The film is set to be produced by Roy Lee (It Chapter Two) via his Vertigo Entertainment production banner alongside Seth Rogen (An American Pickle), Evan Goldberg (Good Boys) and James Weaver (Long Shot) through the trio’s Point Grey Pictures and Jon Berg (Justice League), while Andrew Childs (Death Note) and Josh Fagen (Blockers) are set to executive produce.

Production on Cobweb is set to begin later this month in Bulgaria following the conclusion of production on another Lionsgate title, The Devil’s Light.

After starring in the poorly-received Netflix sci-fi actioner Extinction, Emmy nominee Caplan returned to acclaimed television last year with the second season of Hulu’s Castle Rock as notorious Stephen King antagonist Annie Wilkes as well as the mixed-received Apple crime drama Truth Be Told. Upon breaking out as the lead of Cinemax’s action series Banshee, Starr has further become a standout star with his turn as the maniacal superhero Homelander in Amazon’s adaptation of The Boys and can next be seen in the British drama The Father, which is set to hit US theaters on December 18 and UK cinemas on January 8, 2021.

Rising up in the Australian television scene, Coleman found her breakout role in Fox’s post-apocalyptic comedy The Last Man on Earth with a main role across its four seasons and can next be seen in the ensemble dramedy The Argument alongside Maggie Q (Death of Me), Dan Fogler (The Walking Dead), Danny Pudi (Babysplitters) and Tyler James Williams (The Wedding Year).
