Why the Harry Potter movies won’t likely come to Netflix in the United States

Despite Netflix in the multiple regions above now streaming Harry Potter, the United States won’t be so lucky.

As you may know, WarnerMedia is currently prepping the release of HBO Max in May 2020 and although the Fantastic Beasts movies are lined up for the service, Harry Potter isn’t.

That’s because the rights currently reside with NBCUniversal so that could mean we see Harry Potter pop-up on Peacock but that’s yet to be announced.

That means Netflix US won’t be getting Harry Potter anytime soon. The Netflix DVD service is still in operation in the US, however, where you’ll find all the movies available on DVD and Blu-ray.

Harry Potter Movies on Netflix in the UK

The United Kingdom has never streamed Harry Potter either but unlike the US, it isn’t likely going to get the Warner Brothers streaming service, at least in the near future.

Instead, Warner Brothers quite often hands the streaming license over to Sky who operates its NowTV platform who rotates Harry Potter on and off the service. As of the updated publish date (April 2020) the entire franchise is available on NowTV.

ITV regularly runs re-runs of the movies on terrestrial TV in the UK too.

The prequel movies set in the Harry Potter universe, Fantastic Beasts are also scattered around Netflix but we’ve made a separate guide just for that.
