The California Gold Rush created brilliant dreams in the lives of settlers. It also provided the perfect atmosphere for lawlessness and vice. In the western frontier, death was a constant companion to the search for riches. Patrick Tate is the resident undertaker in a peaceful town. He provides for his family by burying the victims of the mining lifestyle. When a vicious group of outlaws moves into town, Tate?s occupation leads him into an ethical struggle. The outlaws begin killing anyone who stands in their way. At first, the undertaker is presented with occupational opportunities. Soon, the outlaws come for him and his family. Tate must change from a man who cares for the dead, into a man who kills to survive. The undertaker becomes the Grim Reaper in order to save his home.
