Jennifer Aniston, Tig Notaro To Star In Netflix Film First Ladies

In its ongoing gambit to acquire every interesting idea from every talented artist on Earth, Netflix will produce a film starring Jennifer Aniston and Tig Notaro from a script written by Notaro and her wife, Stephanie Allyne.

First Ladies will feature Aniston as the first female President of the United States, Beverly Nicholson (though not the first fictional female President obviously), and Notaro as her wife, Kasey. So a first lady and a First Lady. Somewhere Lawrence from Office Space just shed a single tear without knowing why.

Notaro and Allyne are currently writing the script. No director is attached. Notaro, Allyne, and Aniston will serve as producers alongside Adam McKay, Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum and Betsy Koch for Gloria Sanchez Productions.

This will be Aniston’s first foray into streaming and it’s a big introduction. She has largely eschewed the world of television for films since her debut as the iconic Rachel on Friends. She last appeared in 2017 film The Yellow Birds

Notaro and Allyne are no strangers to the streaming world, though it hasn’t always been kind to them. The two produced and starred in One Mississippi for Amazon Prime, which was just canceled after two well-received seasons. One Mississippi was closely based on the chaotic recent events of Notaro’s life in which she was diagnosed with breast cancer and lost her mother within the same year. Both Notaro and Allyne are prominent comedians and actresses who met on the set of 2013 film In a World.

Despite until recently having a show on Amazon Prime, Notaro has a pre-existing relationship with Netflix. Her comedy special Tig Notaro Happy to Be Here will debut on May 22 for the steamer. She will also direct Ellen DeGeneres’ upcoming Netflix comedy special.

Netflix is hoping that Prime’s loss will be their gain and with the addition of Jennifer Aniston, it probably will be.
