Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston Eye Netflix Movie Murder Mystery
Adam Sandler, comedy’s former box office king, has spent the past few years making Netflix his exclusive feature film home, thanks to a lucrative deal; one that was even reupped last year for four more films. However, Sandler’s Netflix sandbox, which has reunited him with various former SNL co-stars, notably with Chris Rock in the upcoming comedy, The Week Of, may eventually continue with a reunion with Jennifer Aniston, which whom he co-starred in 2011’s Just Go with It.
Sandler and Aniston are in talks to star in a comedy movie, called Murder Mystery, for Netflix, according to The Tracking Board. The title Murder Mystery is certainly appropriate, since the story centers on a couple who take a belated cruise ship honeymoon during a particularly rocky point in their marriage, only to be thrust into a real-life whodunnit after a passenger is found dead; a victim of murder… most foul.
The project has reportedly appointed a director in Seth Gordon, known from Baywatch, Identity Thief, Horrible Bosses and video game competition documentary The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters. He was also a producer on Sandler’s 2015 blockbuster, Pixels. Interestingly, the director job originally belonged to Anne Fletcher (The Proposal, Step Up, 27 Dresses), who was set to work off a script by James Vanderbilt (Independence Day: Resurgence, White House Down, The Amazing Spider-Man). Whether or not Vanderbilt’s script will still be in play when Gordon gets behind the camera was not specified.
For Sandler, Murder Mystery would prospectively follow a string of his previous Netflix deal-delivered offerings, consisting of 2015’s The Ridiculous 6, 2016’s The Do-Over, 2017’s Sandy Wexler, 2017’s The Meyerowitz Stories and the impending The Week Of. – Aniston, on the other hand, would come into the film off the just-wrapped musical comedy Dumplin’ and recent efforts such as this past January’s war drama, Yellow Birds, and comedy Office Christmas Party.
While we’re still a bit far from knowing the release date for Murder Mystery, you can catch Sandler reuniting with Chris Rock in The Week Of when it arrives on Netflix on April 27.
